Lopez to launch from long-awaited pole in Aragon. The Spanish rider ends his 1162-day pole drought in dramatic Q2.
Moto2 returns to action in Aragon as they lock in their Grand Prix grid positions in a thrilling Q2. Alonso Lopez (Italjet Gresini Moto2) ended a 1162-day wait for pole position with a late 1:49.405. The Spaniard went fastest on his penultimate lap, holding off Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) by 0.179s after the latter was caught by yellow flags following a huge crash for Ayumu Sasaki (Momoven Idrofoglia RW Racing Team), who escaped unhurt.
Dani Holgado (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) delivered late to grab P3, knocking David Alonso – who graduated from Q1 – off the front row, while Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP) recovered to fourth on his final lap.
In the end, David Alonso had to settle for fifth after Holgado’s late charge, with Collin Veijer (Red Bull KTM Ajo) sixth and Barry Baltus (REDS Fantic Racing) leading row 3. Angel Piqueras (QJMOTOR – Reverte – MSI) took eighth ahead of Alex Escrig (KLINT Racing Team) and Filip Salac (OnlyFans American Racing Team), while Senna Agius (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP), Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team) and Dani Muñoz (Italtrans Racing Team) completed the next group on the grid. Ivan Ortola’s (QJMOTOR – Reverte – MSI) cancelled lap left him down in 15th after he missed the chance to start one final flying lap before the chequered flag.
